WHAT IS A PRIDE SOCIETY?

Pride societies trace their roots to the early LGBTQ+ rights movements, gaining prominence with the iconic Stonewall Riots in 1969. These grassroots initiatives evolved into Pride events, commemorating the fight for equality and celebrating LGBTQ+ identities. Over the years, Pride societies have played a crucial role in fostering inclusivity, combating discrimination, and advocating for legal rights.

Today, Pride societies continue to be vital hubs for community support, education, and activism. They organize events, provide resources, and champion LGBTQ+ rights in the face of ongoing challenges. As beacons of resilience, Pride societies contribute to building understanding, acceptance, and a more equitable world for all. Explore the rich history and contemporary importance of Pride societies as they remain at the forefront of the global movement for LGBTQ+ equality.

who we are

QUESNEL PRIDE SOCIETY

Founded in 2019, the Quesnel Pride Society emerged as a beacon of support for the LGBTQ+ community in the Cariboo region. Born out of a commitment by passionate volunteers and allies, the society officially took shape after four years of ad hoc events. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by queer youth in Quesnel, the founding members dedicated themselves to creating a safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and addressing gaps in support services.

Since its inception, the Quesnel Pride Society has been a registered non-profit agency, actively engaging with the community to raise awareness and provide crucial resources. With a mission to ensure the safety and well-being of every queer individual, the society conducts 3rd party market research, offers subsidized counseling, and fosters inclusivity through various initiatives.

As a dynamic force in the Cariboo region, the Quesnel Pride Society continues to evolve, standing against discrimination, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, and creating a supportive community where everyone can thrive. Explore the vibrant history and ongoing impact of the Quesnel Pride Society, a dedicated ally in the journey toward equality and acceptance.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is rooted in the belief that no one should feel marginalized or unsafe based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The statistics we’ve gathered through our 2022 3rd party market research underscore the urgency of our cause: from homophobic jokes and rejection, to threats and assaults, the struggles faced by our community members are real and pervasive.

In schools, businesses, and healthcare settings, we are resolute in our pursuit to dismantle barriers and foster an environment where everyone can thrive.
